Radial Nerve Palsy Brace (2021)
Short story time…
IIn 2021, I fractured my right arm, necessitating surgery to secure a metal plate to my bone. After the procedure, I experienced a nerve issue in my right arm that hindered the use of my right hand. As a creative professional, my right hand is my essential tool for making, and this limitation brought me quite stressful!
Existing designs and medical tools didn’t allow me to work in the manner I required. This prompted me to design my own prosthesis, which restored my ability to use my right hand. The entire design and making process was documented throughout my recovery.
The problem…
The nerve that supports the raising of the wrist and the extension of the fingers was damaged, preventing me from utilising my hand. No holding cups or spoons, no turning door handles, no drawing, no making.
I had to switch from being right handed to left handed.
A maker makes! The design of my temporary new prosthesis
these were the variety of braces used during recovery…
